Food Porn

So this post is not in fact about donuts and it does not offer recipe advice of any kind. I’m sorry if you felt mislead by the various photographs, but it was done for a reason. As someone who likes to cook and is tolerably good at navigating social media, I see this term used everywhere.

And I am not a fan of it. It’s meant as a joke. That a picture of the food should fill you with lust and pleasurable anticipation. It makes light of something that should not be taken lightly. It’s bad enough when we reduce men and women in the porn industry to nothing more than objects to be desired and disposed of without a thought when we’re satisfied, but to also extend that derogative comparison to food is fifty shades of disturbing. I just find it a really bad sign that we have socially accepted the word porn as a mainstream adjective.

Just offering some food for thought. (You know I couldn’t resist that one.)
